Chandigarh, Apr 13 (MNN) In view of fasts observed by many Muslim undertrials lodged in Punjab jails during Ramzan, Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has issued special instructions to allow them to have food and drinks from outside during the holy month.

Randhawa said that the family members of such inmates or any other NGO would be allowed to deliver consumables to such undertrials and convicts during the period.

He, however, instructed jail authorities to check luggage of visitors from security point of view and ensure full compliance with Covid-19 protocols.

The Minister arrangements would be made in Punjab jails to facilitate such inmates to offer ‘namaz’ or prayers during Ramzan. Instructions have been issued to all jails in the northern state in this regard.
