Kabul, Apr 25 (MNN) A senior US General in Afghanistan said on Sunday that evacuation of some bases had already begun in the country ahead of the planned withdrawal of US troops by the September deadline.

“We will hand over all our bases to the Afghan forces. A number of our bases have begun to evacuate,” General Austin Scott Miller, the commander of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission and US Forces in Afghanistan, said at a press briefing.

The US is slated to hand over three military bases and one airport to Afghan security forces in two weeks, the Khaama news agency reported.

Kandahar airport, Camp Shorabak, Camp Eggers, and COP (Dash Towp) in Chack district of Maidan Wardak are expected to be handed over.

General Miller said the US troops would leave despite no clue on the fate of the peace agreement and urged the Taliban to reduce violence in Afghanistan.
