Colombo, May 3 (MNN) Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera announced on Monday that he is hanging his bat — retiring from international cricket with immediate effect.

Perera, 32, submitted a letter to Sri Lanka Cricket in the morning to convey his move to retire after an international career of nearly 12 years.

Perera debuted for Lanka in an ODI against India in December 2009 in Kolkata and has been a white-ball regular ever since for his team. He has scored 2,338 runs and scalped 175 wickets in ODIs. In T20Is, he has bagged 1,204 runs and 51 wickets.

In 2014, he was on the Sri Lanka team that won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after beating India in the finals in Dhaka.
