Punjab to conduct online classes on DD Punjabi from May 5

Chandigarh, May 4 (MNN) Punjab will conduct online classes for school students through Doordarshan Punjabi from May 5 onwards to compensate them for loss of studies due to coronavirus pandemic.

Online classes will be held for students of Class I to V from 9 am to 10.40 am and for Class VI to Class XII from 10.40 am to 4 pm.

A School Education Department spokesperson said that Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla had given his approval.

School Education Secretary Krishan Kumar said that students are unable to attend schools due to Covid-19 restrictions in the state and hence arrangements were made to impart online education to them.

The daily schedule on these classes will be sent to students one day in advance through the school principal and teachers concerned.

The Secretary said that when the coronavirus epidemic broke out last year, the department was not much prepared, but still many teachers set up online classes.

Now that the department had gained more experience and even teachers learnt a lot, it will prove beneficial for the students.

State Council for Education Research and Training Director Jagtar Singh said that last year 4,189 lectures for pre-primary to XII classes were broadcasted on DD Punjabi.

It included stream-wise lectures for English, Hindi, Mathematics, Punjabi Science, Social Studies and Welcome Life.

The Education Department too had developed Punjab Educare app, through which teachers upload their lectures.

He said that students of government, associated and affiliated schools of Punjab School Education Board will also be able to access online classes through DD Punjabi.

The online classes will be broadcast through free DD Punjabi channel 22, Airtel channel 572, Videocon D2H channel 791, Tata Sky channel 1949, Fastway’s channel 39, Dish TV channel 1169, Sun Direct’s channel 670 and Reliance Big TV channel 950.

Meanwhile, the Punjab School Education Department has extended the deadline for admissions in meritorious schools of the state.

The registrations for admissions in Classes XI and XII in 10 meritorious schools can now be done till 5 pm on June 30, 2021.

These schools are at Amritsar, Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mohali, Patiala, Sangrur and Talwara.
Similarly, registrations for admissions in Classes IX and X in Talwara Meritorious School can be done till 5 pm on June 30, 2021.
