Kabul, May 12 (MNN) Taliban fighters have take control of Nirkh district of Maidan Wardak even as Afghanistan defence forces claimed a tactical retreat after inflicting heavy casualties on the group, media reports said on Wednesday.
The Taliban were quoted by Khaama news agency as saying that they had seized the district compound, district police headquarters and intelligence department, and an army base.
A Taliban spokesperson told the media that they had inflicted heavy casualties on defence forces, captured many others and seized their equipment.
The Interior Ministry claimed that Afghan National Defence and security forces retreated on Tuesday afternoon after inflicting heavy casualties on the Taliban fighters.
There were no reports of exact Taliban and government forces’ casualties.
Meawhile the Ministry of Defence tweeted on Tuesday that 157 Taliban terrorists were killed and 99 others wounded in Laghman, Kunar, Paktia, Wardak, Ghazni, Zabul, Herat, Farah, Balkh, Samangan, Jawzjan, Nimruz, Konduz and Baghlan provinces in Afghan defence forces’ operations in the last 24 hours.
