Classical, conspiratorial way of Modi to deflect focus, says Congress on toolkit controversy

New Delhi, May 19 (MNN) A day after the BJP released what it claimed was a ‘toolkit’ used by the Congress to tarnish the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government over pandemic handling, the Congress on Wednesday asserted that the issue was “Modi ji classical conspiratorial way of deflecting focus away from real issues”.

Party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala told a virtual media briefing on Wednesday that the opposition party had moved the Delhi Police in the matter and denied that the Supreme Court had been approached.

He said that a petition in the apex court was just an attempt by the BJP to get the whole issue entangled in a legal web.

“These people themselves file pleas, get those dismissed, and then give themselves a clean chit,” Surjewala said while appealing to the media not to fall for “childish and foolish” attempts by the BJP to deflect focus from important issues.

The Congress General Secretary claimed that the BJP-led government had looted Rs 20,000 crore from 62 crore Indian farmers. “What we want is an answer to our question as to when this money will be returned.”

He said his party was asking about medical oxygen, ventilators, ICU beds, drugs and medicines for corona patients.

He said that the party had filed a complaint with the Delhi Police and that “law will take its own course”.

The Congress had earlier warned the BJP of an FIR in on the tooklkit issue which it said tantamounted to fraud and forgery.

On Tuesday, BJP President JP Nadda had tweeted about Congress alleged ‘toolkit models’, which was subsequently brought up by Union Minister Smriti Irani, spokesperson Sambit Patra, and BJP General Secretary BL Santhosh.

They had shared a document purportedly printed with AICC Research Department letterhead.

The Congress complaint to Delhi Police sought an FIR against these BJP leaders and said it would write to social media platforms for action against them for propagating a “forged and fabricated” letter.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra tweeted on Wednesday: “Friends, yesterday the Congress wanted to know who’s the author of the toolkit. Please check the properties of the paper. Author: Saumya Varma. Who’s Saumya Varma? The evidences speak for themselves: Will Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi reply?”

BL Santhosh tagged Patra’s tweet and posted: “The more @INCIndia tries to salvage the wreckages the more it sinks. Taxpayers money to IIM, IITs are for nation-building. But here his entire team’s energies are for breaking India under @RahulGandhi.”

Saumya Varma allegedly worked at the office of Congress leader MV Rajeev Gowda, the chairman of the Congress Research Department.
