Former Bihar Governor Pahadia passes away

New Delhi, May 20 (MNN) Former Haryana and Bihar Governor Jagannath Pahadia has died of coronavirus infection. He was 89.

The Congress leader was Chief Minister of Rajasthan from June 6, 1980 to July 14, 1981 and the first Dalit from the state to hold this position. He was also a central Minister for a number of years.

He was a member of the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th Lok Sabha and represented Sawai Madhopur and Bayana seats.

Pahadia also served as Governor of Haryana from July 27, 2009 to July 26, 2014.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over his demise.

“Saddened by the demise of former Rajasthan CM, Shri Jagannath Pahadia Ji. In his long political and administrative career, he made noteworthy contributions to further social empowerment. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti.”
