Chandigarh, May 25 (MNN) Haryana Power Minister Ranjit Singh said on Tuesday that electricity security for four months has been deferred for a year while there will be no electricity surcharge during corona pandemic.

The Minister said that 236 teams were formed by the Electricity Department to prevent power thefts, involving 1,700 staff. These teams registered 2,600 cases after raids at industries, guest houses, resorts, malls etc, due to which electricity revenue had increased by Rs 536 crore in a month.

Ranjit Singh said that overhead electrical wires in residential areas and schools would be removed by August, which would cost around Rs 96 crore.

The department had purchased 10 lakh smart meters, of which 2.75 lakh have been installed in Gurugram, Faridabad, Karnal and Panchkula. Another 20 lakh smart meters would be purchased soon.
