Chandigarh/Amritsar, May 28 (MNN) Punjab Police said on Thursday that it had unearthed a factory involved in illegal manufacture and supply of pharmaceutical drugs in Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.
Police arrested factory owner Munish Mohan of Devi Nagar area in Paonta Sahib and seized over 30 lakh tablets of drugs misused as intoxicants by addicts, Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta said.
As part of its ongoing drive against drugs, Amritsar rural police led by Senior Superintendent of Police Dhruv Dahiya had launched an investigation into the seizure of 50,000 tablets of a medicine from three persons on May 18, 2021.
Consequently, a police team led by Mattewal Station House Officer Lovepreet Singh and Sub-Inspector Gurwinder Singh conducted raid at the factory ‘Unique Formulations’ in the presence of Himachal Police and Sirmaur Drug Inspector.
Two Drug Inspectors Sukhdeep Singh and Amarpal Malli from Amritsar also accompanied the raiding team, he said.
The DGP said that 30,16,332 intoxicant tablets were seized, including 12.45 lakh capsules and 7.72 lakh tablets of a medicine, 9.99 lakh tablets of another drug, valued at around Rs 15 crore from the factory.
He said that the factory had been sealed and the arrested person brought to Punjab after completing legal formalities.
SSP Dhruv Dahiya said that an FIR number 51/2021 under Sections 22, 29, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act stood registered at Mattewal police station and further investigations into the case are on.
In 2020, Punjab Police had unearthed an illegal racket in pharmaceuticals and seized 2.8 crore tablets and capsules of opioid drugs from Neutec Pharma godown at Narela in Delhi and arrested owners Krishan Arora and his son Gaurav Arora from the national capital.
