New Delhi, May 29 (MNN) India on Saturday recorded 1,73,790 new coronavirus cases – its lowest daily count in over a month and a half – and 3,617 more deaths in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry data showed.
India now has 22,28,724 active cases, which are 8.04 per cent of the 2,77,29,247 positive cases reported till date. There was a net decrease of 1,14,428 active cases in the past 24 hours
The total fatalities are 3,22,512, which are 1.16 per cent of the total cases.
The discharged patients increased to 2,51,78,011, including 2,84,601 in the last 24 hours. These are 90.80 per cent of the total cases.
As many as 20,89,02,445 vaccine doses have been given, including 30,62,747 in the last 24 hours.
Tamil Nadu led with 31,079 new cases, followed by Karnataka with 22,823, Kerala with 22,318, Maharashtra 20,740, and Andhra Pradesh 14,429 cases.
The Indians government said that active cases have decreased since the last peak on May 10.
The country recorded less than 3 lakh daily new cases for 13th consecutive day. Less than 2 lakh daily new cases were reported for the last two days.
India’s daily recoveries continued to outnumber the daily new cases for the 16th consecutive day.
A continued decline in weekly case positivity was noticed. Weekly positivity rate in India has come down to 9.84 while daily positivity rate was at 8.36 on Saturday. It has remained less than 10 per cent for five consecutive days.
The cumulative vaccine doses administered in the country has exceeded 20.89 crore, making India the second country after the US to achieve this landmark.
The government said 22,77,62,450 coronavirus doses have been given to states and UTs under the free and direct state procurement categories.
Of these, 20,80,09,397 doses were used, as per the data available at 8 am on Saturday. This figure includes doses that were wasted.
In all, 1,82,21,403 doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered.
A total of 4,86,180 vaccine doses are in the pipeline and will be given to states and UTs within the next three days.
