National parks in Madhya Pradesh to reopen from June 1 to 30

Bhopal, May 30 (MNN) Madhya Pradesh Forest Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah has said that national parks closed amid the coronavirus pandemic will be reopened from June 1 to 30.

He said that guides and gypsy drivers etc, who were struggling to earn a living, will now be able to do so with the reopening of the national parks.

Strict instructions have been given to Forest Department officials to ensure corona health guidelines by people visiting the national parks. The park operators will ensure adherence to health SoPs.

Shah on Sunday took stock of the preparations for resumption of wildlife tourism through videoconference with departmental officials.

Tourism activities in areas with tiger cubs for the last six months will be restricted, while special care for their safety will be taken.

The Minister also said that crowds should not be allowed to gather at places where tigers are likely to be seen in the natural surroundings.

Forest Department Principal Secretary Ashok Varnwal, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Ramesh Gupta, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Alok Kumar, and other senior officer participated in the videoconference.

Meanwhile, Alok Kumar said that the number of elephants in the Kanha National Park has gone up to as a cow elephant had given birth to a male calf a day earlier.

Of the 18 elephants owned by the Forest Department in the National Park, nine are male. There are also four elephant calves, including the newborn.
