Paris, June 4 (MNN) Seventh seed Serena Williams defeated fellow American Danielle Collins to reach the French Open’s last 16 on Friday — the first time since 2018.

The 39-year-old was calm and composed as she prevailed over her dangerous opponent in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Williams is seeking a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title — but first since 2017.

The 39-year-old, still one short of Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles, will next face Kazakhstan’s 22th-ranked Elena Rybakina, who defeated Elena Vesnina 6-1, 6-4 to reach the fourth round for the first time at a major.
