Chandigarh, June 8 (MNN) Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Aruna Chaudhary on Tuesday said that four per cent reservation for persons with disabilities in state government jobs would be ensured.
Of the 50,000 vacancies announced by the government to be filled in various departments this year, 2,000 posts would be filled by persons from this category.
Presiding over a meeting of State Advisory Board (PwDs) at the Punjab Bhawan here, Chaudhary said that the Punjab Government had enhanced social security pensions for all categories of beneficiaries, including persons with disabilities, from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 from July 1 onwards.
The Minister directed the officials to identify 35 acres of land for a stadium to be constructed for para players at the earliest.
Reviewing the progress of welfare schemes aimed at ‘divyangjans’ in various departments, Chaudhary also directed for the implementation of provision of disabled-friendly facilities for such persons and children in public parks, bus stands and buses etc and also to submit review reports at the earliest to provide necessary facilities.
She asked officials to forward cases of orphaned children and families who have lost their breadwinners to COVID for timely financial assistance and benefits of various government schemes to them.
The Social Security Department has so far received 3,54,478 applications under Unique Disability Identity project, of which 2,11,848 cards have been made whereas remaining will be processed soon.
