Chandigarh, June 10 (MNN) Punjab is set to boost its coronavirus vaccination drive from June 12 for the 18-44 age group as it will receive over 1.93 lakh doses on Friday from the Indian government, a senior government officer said on Thursday.
The vaccination drive would be for priority groups, with many more categories added by the state, senior IAS officer and Nodal Officer for Vaccinations Vikas Garg said.
Garg said that of the 1,93,380 doses to be received from the Centre, 1,56,720 are of Covishield and 36,660 of Covaxin.
Shopkeepers and their staff, gym owners and trainers, staff working in hospitality industry (hotels, restaurants, marriage palaces, caterers), including cooks, bearers, industrial workers, street vendors, delivery boys, LPG distribution boys, bus drivers, conductors, auto and taxi drivers, rural and urban local bodies’ representatives and students going abroad have been included in the beneficiaries.
The priority for 10 per cent additional doses would be decided by district administrations concerned.
Already 5,01,550 persons have been vaccinated, for which 5.43 lakh doses were procured at a cost of Rs 17.25 crore, in the 18-44 age group.
