Paris, June 9 (MNN) Greek tennis ace Maria Sakkari beat defending champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to enter the women’s semi-finals at the French Open on Wednesday.
World number 17 Sakkari ended Swiatek’s 11-match winning streak to earn a place in the semis.
On Thursday, Sakkari will challenge world number 33 Barbora Krejcikova, who defeated Coco Gauff in straight sets 7-6 (8-6) 6-3 during the day’s first quarter-finals.
Czech Krejcikova sailed into her first singles Grand Slam semi-finals as she got the better of world number 24 Gauff.
Krejcikova has won both of her previous meetings with Sakkari, including in Dubai earlier this year.
