Chandigarh, June 22 (MNN) The Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes on Tuesday sought a detailed report from the Patiala Deputy Commissioner regarding resolutions adopted by a district village panchayat to fix rates for paddy plantation.

The report has to be submitted by July 7, 2021 through the Sub Divisional Officer (Civil) concerned.

Commission Chairperson Tejinder Kaur said that it had come to her notice through the social media that a Nohra village panchayat in Nabha block had passed a resolution to fix the rate and to impose a fine of Rs 50,000 on violators.

She said that the resolution was contrary to the orders issued by the Commission on June 11, 2020, in which the Rural Development and Panchayat Department Director was ordered to consider all such matters.

“The resolutions should be rejected and panchayats should be made aware that they do not have the authority to issue such resolutions or orders,”’ the Commission head added.

Tejinder Kaur said that the Department had again been instructed to warn the panchayats not to pass any such resolution in future on wage fixation.
