Haryana gives Rs 5 lakh each to 30 state sportspersons bound for Olympics

Chandigarh, June 23 (MNN) The Haryana government has provided Rs 5 lakh each to 30 state players selected for the coming Tokyo Olympics to help them prepare for the world games.

Haryana sportspersons bagging Olympic gold will get Rs 6 crore, silver Rs 4 crore and bronze Rs 2.50 crore, state Sports Minister and former Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh said on Wednesday.

On the occasion of International Olympic Day, 11,000 saplings will be planted at sports complexes across Haryana, he said.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal said that Olympic medallist will also be given government jobs in the Sports Department to encourage budding players.

The Chief Minister said that international medallists would also be appointed on deputation in the Education and other state Departments.

He was interacting with Olympic medallists on the occasion of International Olympic Day here on Wednesday.

In order to promote sports, the Haryana government was offering 3 per cent reservation for sportsperson in government jobs, apart from government jobs for medal winners.

The government was also strengthening sports infrastructure, including renovation of sports stadiums.
