London, July 3 (MNN) Australian Nick Kyrgios and US’ Venus Williams made their much-anticipated mixed doubles debut at the Wimbledon on Friday to deliver a highly entertaining 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Austin Krajicek and Sabrina Santamaria.

The pair will next face fourth seeds Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Nicole Melichar.

Venus owns 14 Grand Slams in doubles (all with sister Serena Williams) and has won the 1998 Australian Open and 1998 Roland Garros in mixed doubles (with Gimelstob).

Living up to the former WTA world number 1’s weighty legacy added a bit of pressure, but also more motivation, Kyrgios admitted.

With the victory, Kyrgios equalled his best mixed doubles result. He has previously reached the second round at Grand Slams four times, most recently at the 2020 Australian Open (with Anisimova).
