Chandigarh, July 9 (MNN) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to investigate the sacrilege case in Bargari filed its first ‘challan’ in a Faridkot court on Friday. The next hearing in the court of JMIC has been fixed for July 20.
SIT head and IGP Amritsar Border Range SPS Parmar said that the challan was presented against six accused arrested in the case.
The SIT had informed the Illaqa Magistrate regarding the start of its investigation on May 16, 2021 and arrested all the accused wanted in this case, the IGP added.
Torn pages of Sri Guru Granth Sahib were found at Bargari on October 12, 2015, following which an FIR number 128 was registered the same day under Sections 295, 295-A, 153-A, 201, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code at Bajakhana police station on the statement of Bargari Gurdwara Sahib Manager Kulwinder Singh.
The SIT was led by SPS Parmar, IGP Border Range, Amritsar, and comprising Rajinder Singh Sohal, AIG/CI Punjab, Lakhbir Singh, ACP/ERS Amritsar and Inspector Dalbir Singh, incharge of CIA at Faridkot and others, after the Punjab and Haryana High Court handed over the cases to the Punjab Police.
The six accused arrested in the case were Sukhjinder Singh alias Sunny, Shakti Singh, Ranjit Singh alias Bhola, Baljit Singh, Nishan Singh and Pardeep Singh, a government spokesperson said.
The case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation on November 2, 2015, following which the Punjab government had notified on September 6, 2018 to take back sacrilege cases from the central agency.
The CBI had submitted a joint closure report on July 4, 2019 in all three related cases.
Later, the High Court ordered the transfer of investigation of this case to the Punjab Police, the spokesperson added.
