Dublin, July 14 (MNN) Ireland have announced a 14-member women’s cricket squad for their four-match T20I series against Netherlands, starting July 26. The series marks the big return of players Mary Waldron and Eimear Richardson.

This will be Ireland’s second T20I series at home in 2021 after their 3-1 series win against Scotland in May at Stormont.

Waldron, who has featured in over 100 internationals for the side, is coming back after a hiatus of two years. Richardson returns after a stellar season of club and provincial cricket in New Zealand.

Also rejoining the team will be all-rounder Sophie MacMahon. She was unavailable for the Scotland series but her impressive performances in the Super Series white-ball matches have earned her a call-up.

Amy Hunter, who was a part of the Scotland series, has been named as COVID reserve. The other players missing from the squad that played against Scotland are Jane Maguire, Cara Murray and Jenny Sparrow.

The two sides are heading to Spain for the T20 World Cup European Qualifier – where Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, France, Germany and Turkey will battle it out for one spot in the T20 World Cup global qualifying tournament.

“After a positive set of performances to turn around the series against Scotland in May, the squad will certainly be looking to continue its good form in the international arena ahead of the T20 Qualifiers next month,” said Chair of National Women’s Selectors Carrie Archer.
