Copenhagen, July 15 (MNN) Dutch football forward Arjen Robben has announced his retirement from professional football.

“Dear football friends, I have decided to stop my active football career. A very difficult choice. I want to thank everyone for all the heart-warming support! Regards,” the 37-year-old wrote on his Twitter account.

The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich winger originally retired for the first time in 2019 after leaving Bayern Munich.

However, he returned to the game to re-sign with his youth club Groningen a year later; but Robben was limited to just seven appearances due to injury.

Robben won eight Bundesliga titles and five German Cups during his time at the Allianz Arena, before choosing to announce what would be a short-lived retirement.

Robben played 59 official matches for FC Groningen. The later star attacker made his debut at the age of 16 on December 3, 2000 in the away match against RKC Waalwijk. The last official game that Robben played in green and white was the play-off game with FC Utrecht, on May 19 of this year.

Robben scored more than 200 goals at club level and 37 goals in 96 outings for the Netherlands and inspiring their run to the 2010 World Cup final.
