Colombo, July 20 (MNN) In a riveting contest, India defeated Sri Lanka in the second One-day International here on Tuesday by three wickets, courtesy Deepak Chahar’s unbeaten 69 runs off 82 balls and two wickets.
While Sri Lanka made 275 for nine off the allotted 50 overs, India amassed 277 for the loss of seven wickets in 49.1 overs.
Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar at 19 were at the crease when the match ended. India needed three runs to win in the last over. But a four on the very first ball ensured India won with five balls to spare.
Shikhar Dhawan contributed 29 off 38 balls before the skipper was lbw by Wanindu Hasaranga while Manish Pandey was run out by Dasun Shanaka at 37.
Suryakumar Yadav made 53 off 44 balls when he was lbw by Lakshan Sandakan.
Krunal Pandya made 35 off 54 balls when he was clean bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga, who claimed a total of three wickets in 10 overs at the cost of 37 runs.
In the Lankan innings, Charith Asalanka made 65 off 68 balls while Chamika Karunaratne was unbeaten at 44. Avishka Fernando made 50 off 71 balls while Minod Bhanuka was caught by Manish Pandey off Yuzvendra Chahal
when at 36.
Dhananjaya de Silva made 32 before he was caught by Shikhar Dhawan off Deepak Chahar delivery.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets each and Deepak Chahar two.
