Chandigarh, July 22 (MNN) The Haryana government has given approval for the Karnal-Yamunanagar new rail line project to fulfil a long-pending public demand for direct and fast rail connectivity between these two cities.
The Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC, a joint venture between Railways Ministry and state government) has finalised this DPR at an estimated cost of Rs 883.78 crore. The project shall be implemented in around four years.
Haryana has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) on July 20, after incorporating all suggestions made by the Ministry of Railways to the draft report submitted earlier in September 2019, a government spokesperson said.
The state had pursued this project in various meetings held by Chief Minister with Union Minister of Railways.
The proposed rail line will take off from Karnal railway station on the Delhi-Ambala route and connect at existing Jagadhri workshop railway station on the Ambala-Saharanpur route.
The new line will act as a feeder route for Eastern DFC, having an interchange point with railways at Kalanaur Station (adjoining Yamunanagar) by providing direct connectivity to Karnal, Panipat and other parts of central Haryana.
Existing rail route from Karnal to Yamunanagar via Ambala Cantonment has a route length of 121 km. The comparative road distance between Karnal and Yamunanagar is 67 km.
When the new track is built, the route length of 64.6 km will provide the shortest link between these two cities. Hence, direct and faster connectivity between Karnal and Yamunanagar, faster transport of passengers and speedier access to markets for agricultural produce, plywood and timber, industrial products, metal industry, fertilisers etc from rural regions like Indri, Ladwa and Radaur would accrue from the project.
It will also directly connect southern and western parts of Haryana with the holy city of Haridwar.
The Karnal-Yamunanagar rail line will also provide feeder route connectivity for Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor at Kalanaur, enabling development of logistic parks in the Karnal-Yamunanagar area, enhancing the living standards of the people by creating employment as well as economic opportunities due to increased industrial activity in and around the project influence area.
