Tokyo, July 26 (MNN) Japanese Naomi Osaka brushed aside Switzerland’s world number 50 Viktorija Golubic 6-3 6-2 to reach the third round of the women’s singles tournament at the Tokyo Olympics here on Monday.
Both players held serve with ease until the eighth game when Osaka broke to lead 5-3 and, after saving a break point, she served out to take the opening set.
The home favourite got straight to work in the second set, racing out into a 4-0 lead.
Golubic did manage to steady the ship but was unable to trouble the Osaka serve as the Japanese star wrapped up victory in an hour and five minutes.
She now faces either Czech left-hander Marketa Vondrousova or Mihaela Buzarnescu of Romania in the last 16.
