Tokyo, July 28 (MNN) Novak Djokovic and Ash Barty will feature in the mixed tennis doubles event at the Tokyo 2020.
The 16-team mixed doubles draw, released on Tuesday, revealed that Barty and Djokovic have both medals on their mind in the Japanese capital.
Djokovic will partner with fellow Serb Nina Stojanovic, while the Australian will team up with countryman John Peers.
Their decision to enter the mixed doubles fray means that 2021 Wimbledon singles champions both have a chance of leaving Tokyo with two gold medals.
34-year-old Djokovic, whose Olympic ambitions are firmly set on the elusive ‘Golden Slam’, is currently going well in the men’s singles competition: he has so far cruised through the competition relatively unchallenged.
Meanwhile, Barty has put the pain of her first round women’s singles loss to one side and progressed through to the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles with Storm Sanders.
Other notable tennis names throwing their hat into the ring for the mixed doubles title include Poland’s Iga Swiatek, Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
