Chandigarh, July 28 (MNN) The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission on Wednesday ordered the state Director General of Police to constitute a four-member Investigation Cell headed by an IG-ranked officer to examine complaints related to members of the Scheduled Castes.
After listening to complainants and reviewing investigation reports received from the Director, Bureau of Investigation, Commission Chairperson Tejinder Kaur said that it was felt that despite truth in many complaints, most investigation reports submitted by the Investigation Bureau were contrary to facts and against aggrieved persons.
In order to ensure justice to the SCs of Punjab and to protect their rights, she said, the DGP has been directd under Sub-section (c) of Section 3(2) of Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Act of 2004 to constitute the four-member Investigation Cell in the Bureau of Investigation, headed by an IG who should be from the SC community and two other police officers in the ranks of DIG and AIG.
Apart from this, a Scheduled Castes legal advisor should also be included in this cell.
She said the DGP has been asked to apprise the Commission about the action taken within 15 days in this regard.
