New Delhi, Aug 11 (MNN) Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu will skip the national weightlifting championships at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala.

Chanu, who represents the Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), is the reigning women’s 49kg national champion.

Chanu won a silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics — the first medal for India at the Games.

The 2018 Youth Olympics gold-medallist Jeremy Lalrinnunga will hope to bounce back from a knee injury to defend his men’s 67kg title at the national weightlifting championships. He represents the Services Sports Control Board.

The 18-year-old Lalrinnunga had narrowly missed out on a spot at the Tokyo Olympics after finishing fourth in the world junior championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in May.

He has been struggling with a knee injury since the Asian championships, also held in Tashkent, in April.

The junior and sub-junior national weightlifting championships will also be held alongside the senior nationals, a four-day event, at NIS, Patiala from Tuesday.
