New Delhi, Oct 26 (MNN) FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup Bhubaneswar 2021 slated to begin on November 24 will be a telecast-only affair with no spectators.
Hockey India and FIH jointly decide to hold the marquee quadrennial tournament under closed doors as the organisers believe it will not be possible to control the number of people at the venue and yet follow all Covid guidelines and protocols.
The organisers maintained that social distancing is a priority due to prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation and safety of the sport’s fans and athletes needs to be prioritised.
While the stadium will only be open to accredited personnel and participants, fans can tune in and cheer for their favourite teams and players across platforms around the world for all games.
The FIH tourney will see 16 teams in the fray, including defending champions and hosts India, Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Egypt, France, Germany, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Africa, Spain, The Netherlands and the United States.
After five days of pool matches, classification matches will be held from November 30. Quarter-finals will be played on December 1, semi-finals on December 3 and title clash on December 5.
