Washington, Nov 14 (MNN) US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken has conveyed concerns regarding China’s continued military, diplomatic, and economic pressure against Taiwan and advocated peaceful resolution of the matter.
The concerns were conveyed when Blinken spoke with PRC State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said on Sunday.
The US Secretary emphasised longstanding US interest in peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and urged Beijing to engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve cross-Strait issues peacefully and in a manner consistent with the wishes and best interests of the people on Taiwan.
Both also discussed on Saturday (local time) the preparations for President Joe Biden’s upcoming virtual meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping, noting the meeting presents an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss how to responsibly manage competition between the two nations while working together in areas where interests align.
The Secretary also stressed the importance of taking measures to ensure global energy supply and price volatility do not imperil global economic recovery, Price said.
