Lucknow, Nov 22 (MNN) Farmers protesting against the Modi government held their planned Kisan Mahapanchayat here on Monday in a show of strength and voiced their unmet demands, including legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price for crops.
Various farmer leaders who spoke on the occasion — days after Prime Minister Narandra Modi announced withdrawal of three central farm laws — stressed that Modi move is “only the first victory of the protesting farmers and that the government is giving too little even now even though several demands were put on the table”.
The farmer leaders also warned the Uttar Pradesh government about alleged “non-payment of sugarcane dues” to farmers.
They also emphasised on their demand for the sacking of Ajay Mishra Teni from the Union Cabinet and his arrest with regard to the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
The family members of farmers who died in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3 were seated on stage along with SKM leaders at the Kisan Mahapanchayat and later felicitated.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha said that their open letter to Modi had raised all their pending demands regarding remunerative MSP and procurement as per C2+50 per cent formula, apart from withdrawal of Electricity Amendments Bill and keeping farmers out of the purview of Delhi air quality regulation etc.
The SKM plans to hold a meeting on November 27 to review further developments, if any.
