Moga (Punjab), Nov 22 (MNN) In a bid to woo women voters ahead of Punjab Assembly elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday that all females aged 18 and above will get Rs 1,000 per month if the AAP forms the next government in the state.
“There’s a lot of talk doing the rounds here about women empowerment. But there’s no substance in these talks. No work is being done by political leaders in this direction. We’re here to change this attitude. They say money strengthens people, gives them freedom to choose, and backs their willpower.
“Today, I wish to announce my third guarantee for Punjab — when the AAP forms a government in Punjab, each woman older than 18 years will get Rs 1,000 in their bank accounts each month.
“If there are three women in a family, all three will get Rs 1,000 each. Women who get senior citizen pension will continue to get their pension and this amount will be in addition to the pension.”
He said that this scheme aimed at empowerment of women will have a monumental impact on their uplift.
The Aam Aadmi Party leader said that women have to carry AAP’s baton in the coming Assembly elections and convince their family members to vote for AAP.
The AAP made bus travel free for women in Delhi by spending only Rs 150 crore, while a Chief Minister spent more than that to buy an airplane for himself, Kejriwal remarked.
In an apparent dig at his political rivals, including Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, he cautioned the people about a “fake” Kejriwal roaming around in the state and spreading lies about his public welfare works.
“Beware, don’t be fooled by his lies. Transport and sand mafia sit next to Channi during public events. So, how can you expect him to work for public good?” Kejriwal said.
He appealed to the Punjab voters to give AAP a chance to form a government in the state, and claimed that they will forget parties who did nothing in the past but make a mockery of public mandate.
Kejriwal has already announced free electricity up to 300 units per month and healthcare to the people of Punjab.
Kejriwal is presently in Punjab on a two-day visit. On Monday, he announced in Moga his plan to empower women. Later, he met with auto-rickshaw drivers in Ludhiana.
