Chandigarh, Nov 23 (MNN) The Haryana government will soon provide tablets to students of Classes 11 and 12 from the coming academic session, for which it will buy 5 lakh tablets costing Rs 560 crore.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal also announced 15,000 tube-well connections to farmers across the state in the near future.

Decisions regarding these were taken in a meeting of High-Power Purchase Committee at Haryana Niwas here on Tuesday.

Education Minister Kanwarpal, Transport Minister Moolchand Sharma, Power Minister Ranjit Singh, Agriculture Minister JP Dalal, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Anoop Dhanak and Sports Minister Sandeep Singh were present in the meeting.

The Chief Minister told reporters after the meeting that 23 agendas were placed in the committee meeting, in which decisions related to purchases totalling about Rs 1,000 crore were taken.

He said that the government plans to give tablets to students of other classes as well in future.

Manohar Lal said that the process to purchase power equipment valued at Rs 350 crore was completed in the meeting with regard to issuance of new tube-well connections, which includes wire, transformers and other equipment.

It will benefit thousands of farmers drawing power through Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam.

The Chief Minister said that if anyone gets information related to corruption in jobs or departments, they should immediately inform Haryana Vigilance.

To ensure youths from poor families get proper representation in government jobs, the BJP-JJP government had decided to give five additional marks to such candidates during recruitment.

The committee – of which Transport Minister Moolchand Sharma, Education Minister Kanwarpal and MoS Anoop Dhanak are permanent members while Chief Secretary and Director Supplies and Disposal and ACS of  department concerned are members – aim to save state money since whatever goods are to be procured, it is decided by sitting face to face with those filing tenders.
