Railmajra, Dec 10 (MNN) Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi here on Friday laid the foundation stone of the first-ever private tech skill university in the northern region, which is aimed to increase employability and applied skills of the youths.

In his address after laying the foundation stone of Lamrin Tech Skills University at the Rayat campus in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, he said it is a red letter day for Punjab as leading corporate sector players IBM, Tata and Ansys had joined hands for the skill university to help put the northern state in a trajectory in terms of skill training and jobs in the industrial sector.

“The idea of this university took shape when I was the Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister,” Channi said.

Emphasizing that skill education be in sync with the industry demands and emerging trends, he exuded confidence that the university will help generate employment and that the three companies will provide jobs to pass-outs.

IBM’s Hari Ramasubramanian, Rafiq Somani from Ansys and Anand Bhade from Tata Pune said that until now Punjab was known as the ‘food bowl’ of the country but will now carve out a niche as skill resource board of India with this skill university.

Lamrin Tech Skills University founder-partner Nirmal Singh Rayat and government’s adviser on technical education and skill training Dr Sandeep Singh Kaura were among those present on the occasion.
