New Delhi, Dec 20 (MNN) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Prayagraj on Tuesday to participate in a programme aimed at empowering women and girls.
In an endeavour to support women, the government will transfer a total of Rs1,000 crore in the bank accounts of Self Help Groups (SHGs) to benefit around 16 lakh women members.
This transfer of money by Modi will be done under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM), wherein 80,000 SHGs will receive Community Investment Fund of Rs 1.10 lakh each and 60,000 SHGs revolving funds of Rs 15,000 each.
The Prime Minister will encourage Business Correspondent-Sakhis by transferring Rs 4,000 each as first month’s stipend in the accounts of 20,000 beneficiaries. These women work as providers of doorstep financial services at the grass-roots level, and are paid a stipend of Rs 4,000 for six months, so that they are stabilised in their work and later earn through commission on transactions.
The Prime Minister will also transfer over Rs 20 crore to more than 1 lakh beneficiaries under the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangala Scheme, wherein cash transfer is done to every girl child totalling Rs 15,000 till they pass Class 10 or 12.
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of 202 Supplementary Nutrition Manufacturing Units funded by Self Help Groups and entail a cost of approximately Rs 1 crore each. These units will supply items of supplementary nutrition under Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in 600 blocks of the state.
