Yogi to hand over free smartphones, tablets to UP youths from December 25

Lucknow, Dec 20 (MNN) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will launch the announced distribution of 60,000 free smartphones and 40,000 tablets to the state’s youths from December 25.

In the first phase, one lakh smartphones and tablets are planned to be given to final-year students at Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in the state capital, the government said on Monday.

A large number of students, including girls, from all UP districts will participate in the programme.

Final-year students of MA, BA, BSc, ITI, MBBS, MD, BTech, MTech, PhD MSME and Skill Development courses among others will be given preference.

IT and Electronics Department Special Secretary, Kumar Vineet said: “More than 38 lakh youths have been registered on Digi Shakti Portal. Registration of others is still going on.”

Well-known companies like Lava, Samsung and Acer, who have been given orders for the supply of smartphones and tablets, are expected to supply the same before December 24.

In order to make the procurement process transparent and fair, the largest order has been issued on the GeM portal so far.

In the first phase, orders have been placed for 10.50 lakh smartphones at Rs 10,740 per smartphone and 7.20 lakh tablets at Rs 12,606. This order will cost around Rs 2,035 crore.

Around 18 lakh smartphones and tablets are slated to be supplied by the companies soon.
