New Delhi, Dec 30 (MNN) India women’s hockey team Captain Rani Rampal has said that they will leave no stone unturned to book a direct ticket to next Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
Rani said that the team will go all out to clinch the gold in the Asian Games 2022 so as to directly qualify for Paris 2024, even as they will have to take one step at a time in 2022. “First, we will have to do well in Women’s Asia Cup 2022,” she added.
The team’s campaign in Asian Champions Trophy was derailed as the team was forced to pull out due to Covid-19 complications.
The Indian women’s team had finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 after losing to Great Britain by a slender 3-4 margin.
Their historic performance saw dragflicker Gurjit Kaur (Women’s Player of The Year award), Savita Punia (Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award), Sharmila Devi (Women’s Rising Star of the Year award) and former India chief coach Sjoerd Marijne (Coach of the Year) sweep FIH awards.
Rani Rampal was honoured with Padma Shri and teammates Vandana Katariya and midfielder Monika with Arjuna award.
The Indian team had achieved their highest-ever ranking (world number 8) after their performance at Tokyo 2020, and will finish the year at the ninth spot.
