Chandigarh, Jan 7 (MNN) Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr S Karuna Raju on Friday organised a workshop for all District Public Relation Officers (DPROs) on ‘Social Media Monitoring’ to help them counter fake news and identify paid news during the 2022 Assembly elections.

Assistant Professor Dr Rubal Kanozia from Central University in Bathinda – a researcher in misinformation and fake news and a social media analyst — was the main speaker at the workshop.

During the workshop, Raju reviewed the ongoing SVEEP activities with DPROs in their respective districts and asked them to sensitise maximum number of people on their voting right not only by using conventional media like indoor and outdoor advertisements and press notes, but also exhort them to make optimum use of social media platforms.

Kanozia later briefed the DPROs about social media tips and tools to help keep a check on fake and paid news going viral on different social media platforms during the elections.

Notably, DPROs play a vital role in Media Certification and Monitoring Committees (MCMC) constituted during elections to keep a check on news in newspapers, as well as electronic and social media.
