Chandigarh, Jan 13 (MNN) Ever since the Model Code of Conduct has came into force with the announcement of Punjab Assembly elections, enforcement officials have seized contraband and other items valued at Rs 23.8 crore till Thursday.
Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr S Karuna Raju said that surveillance teams seized 79,766.512 litres of liquor valued at Rs 24 lakh.
Similarly, enforcement officials seized psychotropic substances valued at Rs 23.366 crore besides Rs 4 lakh in unaccounted cash, he added.
The Chief Electoral Officer revealed that as many as 1,028 “highly sensitive areas” have been identified in Punjab, apart from 1,131 persons who can create disturbance in the run-up to polls. Action has already been initiated against 362 such persons.
Raju said preventive measures had been taken against 31 persons from security point of view, while 998 non-bailable warrant cases were under process. Action has been initiated against 873 persons under non-bailable warrants after the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct.
The municipal corporation teams have also removed as many as 49,852 defacements done on public properties, and 16,900 on private properties.
Raju said that 12,684 of the 2,97,140 licensed weapons had been deposited in Punjab till date, whereas 17 unlicensed weapons were seized.
He said that 84 per cent staff to be deployed in election duties have got their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, while 49 per cent staff is fully vaccinated.
