Chandigarh, Jan 15 (MNN) Ever since Model Code of Conduct came into force in Punjab on January 8 ahead of the Assembly elections, enforcement teams seized till Friday valuables valued at Rs 40.31 crore on charge of violation of the code.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr S Karuna Raju said n Saturday that surveillance teams seized 2.72 lakh litres of liquor valued at Rs 81 lakh. Similarly, psychotropic substances valued at Rs 38.93 crore was seized, besides unaccounted cash of Rs 14 lakh.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that 1,064 ‘highly sensitive areas’ have been identified in Punjab, besides 2,222 persons who could be sources of trouble in the run-up to polling.

Preventive action has already been initiated against 894 of them.

Preventive measures had been taken against 118 persons from a security point of view, the officer said. As many as 2,064 cases of non-bailable warrants have been executed, while execution of the same in 239 cases is under process. As many as 3,692 ‘nakas’ are operational across the state, he added.

Raju said that MCC teams have removed 53,610 defacements on public properties, and 14,911 on private properties till now.

As per Election Commission of India directions, Raju said, 3,23,102 licensed weapons have been deposited in the state and 20 unlicensed weapons seized.

He said that 84.3 per cent of staff to be deployed in election duties have got their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, while 49.9 per cent staff are fully vaccinated.
